Living \r\n the Quran |
Al-Fajr \r\n (The Dawn)
Much difference of opinion has been expressed by the commentators in \r\n the commentary of these verses, so much so that in respect of \"the \r\n even and the odd\" there are as many as 36 different views. In some \r\n traditions the commentary of these verses has also been attributed to \r\n the Prophet upon whom be peace), but the fact is that no commentary is \r\n confirmed from him, otherwise it was not \r\n possible that anyone from among the Companions, their immediate successors, \r\n and later commentators would have dared to determine the meaning of these \r\n verses by himself after the commentary by the Prophet. \r\n \r\nTo keep the significance of these oaths within the context, we would \r\n have to take each of the oaths in the meaning relevant to the subsequent \r\n theme. \r\n
All these things point to the reality that \r\n an all-Powerful Sustainer is ruling over this universe and nothing of \r\n what He is doing is absurd, purposeless, or lacking wisdom; on the contrary, \r\n a wise plan clearly underlies whatever He does. In His \r\n world one will never see that while it is night, the midday sun should \r\n suddenly appear overhead, or that the moon should appear one evening in \r\n the shape of the crescent and be followed next evening by the full moon, \r\n or that the night, when it falls, should never come to an end, but should \r\n become perpetual, or that there should be no system in the alternation \r\n of the day and night so that one could keep a record of the dates and \r\n know what month was passing, what was the date, on what date a particular \r\n work is to begin, and when it is to finish, what are the dates of the \r\n summer season and what of the rainy or winter season. \r\nNow, if a person living in the world of such a Wise, Omnipotent and All-Mighty \r\n Creator denies the rewards and punishments of the Hereafter, he inevitably \r\n commits one of the two errors: either he \r\n is a denier of His powers and thinks that though He has the power to create \r\n the universe with such matchless order and discipline, He is powerless \r\n to recreate man and mete out rewards and punishments to him \r\n or he denies His wisdom and knowledge and \r\n thinks that although He has created man with intellect and powers in the \r\n world, He will neither ever call him to account as to how he used his \r\n intellect and his powers, nor will reward him for his good deeds, nor \r\n punish him for his evil deeds. One who believes in either, \r\n is foolish to say the least. \r\nSource: \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n |
\r\n Understanding the Prophet's Life |
\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Most Honourable Deeds \r\nPraise be to Allah Who has created Time and has made some times \r\n better than others, some months and days and nights better than \r\n others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards \r\n His slaves. This should encourage us to do more righteous deeds \r\n and make us more eager to worship Him, so that we prepare ourselves \r\n for death and be ready for the Day of Judgement. \r\nThis season of worship brings many \r\n benefits, such as the opportunity to correct faults and make up \r\n for any shortcomings or anything that we might have missed. \r\n Every one of these special occasions involves some kind of worship \r\n through which we may draw closer to Allah, and some kind of blessing \r\n though which Allah bestows His favour and mercy upon whomsoever \r\n He wills. The happy person is the one who makes the most of these \r\n special months, days and hours and draws nearer to Allah through \r\n acts of worship. \r\nIbn Abbas reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon \r\n him) said, \"No good deeds done \r\n on other days are superior to those done on these days \r\n [meaning the ten days of Zul-Hijjah].\" The companions asked, \r\n \"O Messenger of Allah, not \r\n even jihad in the way of Allah?\" He said, \r\n \"Not even jihad, except for \r\n the man who puts his life and wealth in danger and returns with \r\n neither of them.\" [Bukhari, Tirmidhi, Ibn \r\n Majah, Abu Dawud] \r\nAhmad and at-Tabarani recorded from Ibn Umar that the Messenger \r\n of Allah said, \"There is no \r\n day more honourable in Allah's sight and no acts more beloved \r\n therein to Allah than those done in these ten days. So say tahlil \r\n (There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah: La ilaha illallah), \r\n takbir (Allah is the greatest : Allahu Akbar) \r\n and tahmid (All praise is due to Allah : alhamdu \r\n lillah) a lot [on those days].\" [Reported \r\n by Ahmad] \r\nAbu Hurairah relates that the Messenger of Allah said, \"There \r\n are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein \r\n than the ten days of Zul-Hijjah. Fasting any day during it is \r\n equivalent to fasting one year and to offer tahajjud \r\n (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing \r\n the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e., \r\n Lailatul Qadr].\" [This is related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, \r\n and al-Baihaqi] \r\n \r\n Source: |
Unlearn! |
\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n In the attempt to extinguish a burning desire for ‘learning \r\n Islam or Deen’, many practicing Muslims, often take extreme \r\n approaches to the study of Islam that are devoid of practicality \r\n and spirituality. \r\nIn order to overcome this problem we need to unlearn, before \r\n we learn. This section is covering some misconceptions that \r\n we need to unlearn before we move on to learning Islam. \r\nSahabas were all Scholars \r\nTo every Companion of the Prophet, Islamic education and training \r\n was a natural process. Moreover, it was an issue and situation \r\n based learning, more than an organized theoretical learning. \r\n You can count the number of “scholars” among the \r\n Companions on your fingers. This did not prevent them from applying \r\n Islam to all aspects of their lives and confidently spreading \r\n the pure message of Islam throughout the world. Even the ones \r\n who were devoted to learning and recording knowledge did not \r\n aim to be “scholars”. \r\nOral Tradition versus Books \r\nIn response to a question, “What about the claim of \r\n those who say that Islamic knowledge has always been an oral \r\n tradition?” Dr. Ingrid replied: “Transmission of \r\n knowledge in Islam has always been a dual process. The presence \r\n of Islamic books and literacy is a blessing from Allah. But \r\n we do need scholars as a source of clarification and motivation. \r\n Do not belittle the books! The Prophet encouraged literacy among \r\n Muslims. Even the Quran was later preserved in the form of a \r\n book.” \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Source: |
